3 Sisters Rock formation. Echo Point, Katoomba, AustraliaThree Sisters Jigsaw Puzzle

Landscapes make great picture jigsaw puzzles and this photograph of Australia's famous Three Sisters rock formations near Katoomba is no exception. We have created the jigsaw with 3 different skill levels so give all players, from beginners to experienced, a good challenge while also enjoying the beauty that can be found in this particular part of the world.

About an hours drive from Sydney, the 3 Sisters is one of the most photographed natural attractions with hundreds of visitors daily making the trip west to see this beautiful area which includes beautiful waterfalls, bush walks and deep valleys.

Did you know that the Blue Mountains west of Sydney are not really blue in color. They actually get their name from the Eucalypt trees that exude a chemical that makes a bluish haze in the hills and so derive their name from that. Most Australian forests have a similar look, especially in the afternoon when temperatures reach their high point.

There are 2 beautiful tales told by the local aboriginal tribes about how the 3 Sisters were formed. Below is one that I like.

It seems that the local witch doctor had 3 beautiful daughters who were told not to go into the valley because a fearsome Bunyip lived there. The daughters were curious and learned over the cliff face to look down into the valley and accidentally dislodged some rocks which, falling into the valley below, awoke the bunyip. The Bunyip was terribly angry and started up the cliff to eat the young girls, the witch doctor saw what was happening and quickly turned his daughters into stone pillars using his magic stick. The Bunyip became enraged and turned on the witch doctor, who then quickly turned himself into a lyrebird. He fled from the bunyip and lost his magic stick.

Jamieson Valley depicting the "blue haze" in the distance. The 3 Sisters are still pillars of stone and if you go for a walk in the Jamieson Valley below the 3 Sisters, if you are quiet, you may see a Lyrebird scratching in the forest, still looking for the magic stick so that he can turn himself and his daughters back into human form.

Yet another story is told of romance between the sisters and men from another tribe. They are both wonderful stories from the Aboriginal Dreamtime.

Now that you know the Aboriginal myth behind the 3 Sisters rock formation at Echo Point, you will enjoy playing the jigsaw puzzle even more. To play online click the link to what skill level you wish to play and select "Run" from the popup. Choose "Save As" to download to your computer.
