Mt Everest Jigsaw Puzzle

This is a great jigsaw puzzle made from an image of Mt Everest, the world's highest mountain. The puzzle comes in 3 different skill levels and here are a few interesting facts about the mountain.

Did you know that the first persons to reach the summit of Mt Everest were New Zealander Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay from Nepal on May 29, 1953.

Mt Everest is a very difficult mountain to climb and since Sir Edmund Hillary reached the top in 1953 over 2,240 other people have also stood on the top of the mountain. Most of these have been in the last 15 years as expeditions are now highly commercialized with the Nepalese Government issuing permits for climbers which cost around $25,000 US dollars. The mountain is a very major tourist attraction for Nepal and a large contributor to the national economy.

There have been around 190 people killed while trying to climb Mt Everest. Most have been caught in bad weather and frozen while others have fallen to their deaths. A lot of bodies have not been recovered and some are visible to climbers as they attempt their own ascents.

Most climbers must use oxygen as the oxygen levels are very low at such high altitudes. Low oxygen levels make humans not think straight and thereby it is very dangerous to climb such a difficult mountain as Mt Everest, as one must be able to make quick decisions in case of danger.
