Did you know that building on the Golden Gate Bridge commenced in 1933 and was completed in 1937 at a cost of $35 million. The loan for the bridge was finally paid off in 1971 through charging tolls to cross the bridge. Interest on the loan cost $39 million making the total cost of the bridge $74 million dollars.

The Golden Gate Bridge was the world's longest suspension bridge until 1964 when the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge was built in New York City. Today nearly 100,000 vehicles cross the Golden Gate Bridge every day, making it one of the busiest crossings in the world.
