The Eiffel Tower is owned by the people of Paris and visitors can buy lift tickets to travel to the top. During World War 2, Paris was invaded and captured by the Germans. Near the end of the War, as the allied troops were winning their way to Paris, the German dictator Hitler ordered his General to blow up the Eiffel Tower along with the rest of Paris.
