Did you know that when a female duck lays an egg she may not sit on the egg until she she has at least 4 or 5 eggs in the nest. This is called a clutch and there can be up to 12 eggs in the group. This is why you see a mother duck with quite a number of ducklings following her around.

Once the eggs are hatched (called incubation) which takes around 3 to 4 weeks, the ducklings are able to walk and swim in about 2 to 3 hours.
