Did you know that the American Bison was hunted and killed in such large numbers during the early 1800's that they were almost extinct by 1880, with only around 200 remaining. They were prized for their meat and skin and also hunted with the American Governments blessing because the American Indians relied on the bison as their main food sounce , without which they would have to leave the areas and stop fighting with the American people.

Luckily today the Bison's numbers are again on the increase and protected in certain National Parks.
