Chronicles of Mystery, The Scorpio Ritual Interactive Game
Review
The
only fault with Chronicles of Mystery The Scorpio Ritual, is the
fact that there is no free trial download available. It is a shame,
as many will miss out on the fabulous quality of the game and
the pure enjoyment it brings, as you investigate a challenging
mystery among excellent backdrops, set in Malta.
The story line has you taking the role of Sylvie Leroux. Sylvie
is an unknown author and aspiring archaeologist, who just happens
to have a kind uncle who wants to give her failing career a boost.
Uncle Olivier is a famous professor and archaeologist, has a particular
fondness for Sylvie and has taken the role of loving uncle and
career mentor very seriously.
Uncle Olivier invites Sylvie to join him in Malta, to share in
a fabulous discovery he has made on the Island of Gozo, Malta.
He has uncovered a hidden underground temple below some ruins.
As your mentor, Uncle Olivier has decided that you should become
involved in the project right from the start. He has kept the
discovery a secret from the world, so you must hurry. You are
excited by the offer and quickly organize travel from Paris to
Malta. On arrival at your uncle's office, you find him missing.
What has happened to Olivier? You must find your uncle!
The game opens with a fabulous video movie of ancient knights
carrying some type of ritual box. Something strange occurs during
their walk. Could this be a clue? From there you start your quest,
beginning in Paris and taking you to Malta and other locations,
interacting with each scene along the way, picking up items which
are used to progress through the game.
In typical IHOG fashion, the cursor will change shape to signify
that various items are useful or locations within the scene need
further investigation. It isn't overly difficult, but you do need
to use logic to work out where to use what item. Some items will
have information about it displayed at the top of the screen,
which proves helpful. This is a real interactive game, so be prepared
to go back and forth between scenes. If you want to hurry, you
can make Sylvie run by double clicking on her.
The graphics in Chronicles of Mystery The Scorpio Ritual are
excellent, game play is smooth and the challenge exciting. The
mystery really draws you into the game and you are compelled to
continue, not wanting to leave until the end. But if you have
to leave to get a drink, answer the phone or stop the kids from
fighting, the save feature is excellent and you can even save
the game twice in the same chapter.
Perhaps the biggest disappointment with Chronicles of Mystery
The Scorpio Ritual, apart from the fact that there is no free
download, is the game length. With just 11 chapters, an experienced
IHOG player could possibly solve the case in around 3 hours. Yet
the brilliant adventure and excellent overall quality outweighs
any slight annoyance. Highly recommended for all interactive adventure
game fans.
