The Return of Monte Cristo Game Review
The Return of Monte Cristo is a much improved game, visually
and technically, over it's predecessor The
Count of Monte Cristo, which was based on the famous novel
by Alexander Dumas. Graphics are sharp and well presented with
objects not too small or too difficult to find. The Return of
Monte Cristo is a classic hidden object game with a small amount
of interactive elements, but as previously stated, certainly more
a true hidden object game and not one of the new breed, with interactive
adventure the main theme.
You
play as Edmond Dantes, the former Count of Monte Cristo, who needs
to solve the murder of his beloved Mercedes and bring the perpetrator
to justice. You search through scenes for clues to the whereabouts
of the killer, taking you to Paris to eventually solve the crime.
There are 7 chapters to the story, each having 3 to 6 locations
to explore. Sometimes you will need to go back to a previous location
to search for additional clues.
Fabulous sound effects create chilling scenes, where the clinking
of chains or creaking of rusty doors add atmosphere to the story.
The few interactive elements have you finding keys to unlock doors,
or using fishing poles to make a catch, but in the main these
are not worthy contenders as interactive game play. Puzzles are
good challenges, yet not overly taxing and if they do prove too
difficult to solve, can be skipped without penalty.
The Return of Monte Cristo is untimed and played only in relaxed
mode. Hint system is good and replenishes after a slight wait.
The hint system works in 2 parts to help you, firstly giving you
an outline of the object you seek and finally putting little sparkles
around the object if the first part wasn't of use. If you don't
finish a scene, go out and come back later, there will be different
items to find second time around, which does give the game some
replay value. Length isn't overly long, yet if you don't skip
the puzzles and use few hints, gamers should have to work about
5 hours to complete The Return of Monte Cristo.
The Return of Monte Cristo is a good search and find game and
one for all the fans of the classic HOG. This is a mystery type
thriller with a fairly good story, so some scenes are those dark
and spooky type backgrounds that make your eyes work that little
bit harder to find objects. Highly recommend trying the free download
so you can make up your own mind on this game. We enjoyed The
Return of Monte Cristo for a pure hidden object game that it is
and finished the full game in just under 6 hours.
