Relic Hunt Review
Marcus Jones is thought to be the black sheep of the family,
but his grandpa senses there is something worthwhile in the young
man and he deserves a chance. Grandpa was a prominent adventurer
in his day, but alas, as he grew older he kind of lost his marbles
and started stashing all the gold, trinkets and relics he found
on deserted islands. Luckily for Marcus, and us game players,
he wrote the location of the treasures in a diary before he went
completely bonkers.
Young Marcus seems to have inherited his talent for excitement
and his grandpa's affliction for forgetting things. He forgets
to pay his rent, he forgets to go to work, he even forgets to
bathe. While Marcus is totally disappointing to the rest of his
family, Grandpa Jones has a moment of clarity from his normal
delusional state, seizes the moment and presents Marcus with his
diaries, secretly whispering in his ear that if he can follow
the clues held within, find the islands and solve some mysterious
puzzles, great riches will be his.
Well
perhaps it didn't quite happen like that but why spoil a good
story. You have to remember that Relic Hunt is a hidden object
game, so perhaps there is a hidden meaning within. Our version
sounds much more believable anyway because, really, who in their
right mind would find truck loads of gold, valuable diamonds and
other fabulous treasures, then hide them away on deserted islands.
Didn't grandpa know anything about buying things!
Enough! Back to the review. Relic Hunt continues the good interactive
production of late in the hidden object game genre. Not as complex
or compelling as Mystery
Age Imperial Staff, nevertheless it does have it's own set
of features that stamp it a game of quality.
Fabulous clear graphics is the first feature that really grabs
your attention. Nice audio and a good solid story line. Once you
start playing you are met with a lot of interactive seek and find
hunting, such as noticing a message in a bottle, then finding
a corkscrew to pop open the bottle and read the message. There
are many items that will go into your inventory which you will
use later in your quest for untold treasure.
There are seven locations to search and some mini games that
won't bog you down too much. You begin with 3 hints and by finding
"M" symbols scattered throughout the game, you can replenish
your hint basket. Random clicking will make your cursor spin for
a second but as there is no timer, that really isn't a penalty.
Everything points to a really enjoyable game, with Relic Hunt
totally engrossing one to keep playing through to the finish.
The disappointing side to this game is it's length. Any sort of
HOG player could just about finish this within the free hour,
so we must strongly suggest downloading the free trial and playing
that. Items are randomly scattered so there is some replay factor,
but the shortness makes this a game we can't honestly suggest
you purchase.
It's a pity there were not more chapters to Relic Hunt, or another
job for me as a fiction writer. Another 4 or five chapters would
have made this a fabulous play, but saying that, it still is quite
a good game and an enjoyable challenge with a great story. Best
advice from us, play the free download and see how fast you can
get through the game, you may find you finish the game during
the demo time. We give Relic Hunt only 3 stars from five rating,
but it really should deserve more if it were just a few chapters
longer. .
