Real Crimes Jack the Ripper Game Review
Real Crimes Jack the Ripper is a classic hidden object game,
based on the actual events surrounding the gruesome murders of
more than 5 people at the hands of a serial killer. The scene
is the seedy streets of Whitechapel, London, in late 1880's, the
poorer part of London, in which the whole population were scared
by the killings of prostitutes, where they had their throats cut
and internal organs removed.
Real Crimes Jack the Ripper takes you into the official investigation,
and you play alongside such notable gentlemen as Sir Francis Galton,
author of Hereditary Genius and the inventor of fingerprint identification,
and Sir Melville Macnaghten, who was Assistant Commissioner (Crime)
of the London Metropolitan Police.
Real
Crimes Jack the Ripper is the typical seek and find style hidden
object search, where you must find 10 items of various shapes
and sizes in each scene. As Jack the Ripper conducted most of
his heinous crimes during the night, stalking the alley ways and
dark corners for his victims, scenes are in the main dull and
dark, with objects not always relevant to the scenes. Interspersed
within the hidden object scenes are the usual mixed bag of puzzles
that seemingly break the grind of clue hunting.
Real Crimes Jack the Ripper teases you with the fabulous story
and winds the whole package together quite well. It is not an
IHOG, so will probably only excite the fans of the more relaxed
hidden object fans. Speaking of relaxed, the game does have 2
modes of play, a timed mode, where you race against the clock,
and the a special untimed "rookie mode". If you play in untimed
mode and don't finish the scene before the clock counts down,
you play the scene over with a different list of items to find.
Good replay value there.
Because Professor Galton was the inventor of fingerprint identification,
hidden within each scene are 5 fingerprints which add 30 seconds
each to the clock for that scene. Hints are given by clicking
on the police badge, but these are limited. There is an extra
police badge you can find in each scene if needed. Each wrong
click takes 10 seconds from the clock.
Some words are confusing, but you must think 19th century. Calipers
are compasses, the ones used for drawing circles, a Penny Farthing
is a bicycle with a large front wheel and small back wheel. Mini
games are skippable without penalty. Graphics are based on the
period and help the good story line.
Real Crimes Jack the Ripper is good hidden object game, if you
don't want to expend your brain power too much. Excellent for
those who like to play a game steeped in history and enjoy investigating
crimes. It's not scary or anything, just a good search and find,
who dunnit type game. We strongly suggest the Real Crimes Jack
the Ripper demo download first, as it could be a tab slow in today's
