Those of you who remember the fabulous Railroad Tycoon series may be a little disappointed in this casual game offering, yet it isn't a bad game in itself and great for those who have never played the classic railway game. Loco Mogul is something different yet, tends to bring memories of the classic, simply because it is a time management game in the same game style. I still play the original Railroad Tycoon on an old PC I have set up just for that game and Loco Mogul did keep me interested for many hours and I will play Loco Mogul more as time permits.

Set back in the 1800's wild west days, when entrepreneurs were making fortunes from new ventures into unknown territories, Loco Mogul brings 3 distinct strategy styles into the same game quite smoothly. First you must survey the land, looking for areas that may hold commercial prospects, then you lay your tracks and finally operate your railroad at a good profit. Sounds easy, but don't be fooled, this is anything but easy.

Loco Mogul doesn't have fantastic 3D graphics, but is pleasing enough visually. Music is a bit annoying and the instructions not that clear, although once you dig into the game you do get the gist of what you need to do and the strategy you need to apply. Replay value is great because there are plenty of random maps generated that will keep you guessing where mines are situated, or towns that have access to goods that you can haul. There is a sandbox mode where you can learn the strategy needed to become a real railway tycoon, or in this case Loco Mogul.

I like this game, but Loco Mogul may be something that some will certainly not enjoy at all. Give the free download a try, even though it will probably take all of the free hour to work out what you need to do. The randomly generated maps take away the boredom factor from the replay value, 3 distinct strategy styles make each map interesting, and operating at a profit gives a good challenge to the overall game.
