Aquapolis Game Review

Some real estate developers are known as sharks, so it seems very fitting that an underwater real estate game should have sharks in the land development business. Aquapolis brings a fresh and clean twist to the usual real estate simulation game, where clams are traded as money and coral used as an important building material.

Right from the start of Aquapolis, you are guided through the game buying, building, trading, renting and selling real estate, to reach set sales goals. There's not much of a story line to the game, yet it is the strategy and simulation side of the game that counts. Somewhat like a tycoon game, you manage a team of sharks that are willing to construct buildings and improve underwater cities to make you rich.

There are some 8 cities to develop with 35 levels in total, so playing at your own pace can take many, many hours. The replay factor is also high as there are several goals you can meet within each level, such as general cleanliness or clams earned. You earn keys to communities by reaching the expert level, which then unlocks an additional bonus level. There are various upgrades and new features introduced during the game and a "blue shark" will appear several times, that when clicked, gives you a free worker.

You have a team of sharks who do the manual building work and you can develop new residential estates, construct commercial premises, build beautiful underwater gardens and make over industrial areas of each city. You can repair and renovate old buildings and construct your own coral growing garden, so your building materials come cheaper and cost less clams.

There were glitches within the game when first released. Bigfish Games have addressed these problems and patched the game, so now all seems to work smoothly. Aquapolis is a really good game along the lines of Build A Lot, and while it doesn't really add a new twist to the real estate simulation genre, it is fun to play and a relaxed underwater romp to the time management game field.
