Alchemist's Apprentice Game Review
Alchemist's
Apprentice is an exclusive game to Bigfish Games and should not
be confused with a game by the same name about magic recipes, which
was released some years, ago way back in early 2006. This time,
Alchemist's Apprentice is a combination game with primarily match
3 puzzle play with a little hidden object hunting thrown in for
good measure.
You play the leading role of the Alchemists Apprentice. An Alchemist
is actually a pharmacist these days, but in days gone by, Alchemists
were regarded as sorcerers or magicians that possessed great wisdom
and could use the earths natural elements and occult powers to concoct
potions that could induce spells and work magic upon the land. Some
used their powers for the good of the world while others were evil.
What will you use your powers for, once you have completed your
apprenticeship?
While you are attending the High School of Magic Arts, your good
uncle, who just happens to be the governor of the province, informs
you he is off on a a quest to find the legendary Philosopher's Stone.
This allows you access to his rather grand and complex Alchemy Machine,
which you think you can put to good use and restore the province
to it's former glory as the greatest and most magical land on the
planet. But have you learnt enough magic at high school to pull
this all together, or will your inexperience prove to be the final
twist that plunges your region into economic and social oblivion?
While Alchemist's Apprentice has great visual effects, it is primarily
a match 3 puzzle game, so hidden object fans shouldn't get excited
at the release hype implying lots of HOG play, because it certainly
doesn't deliver much in that regard. Alchemist's Apprentice does
deliver a good romp into a wonder world in the same vein as old
match 3 favorites such as Cradle of Rome, and as such, match 3 fans
should seriously consider giving this latest game a play.
Good graphics, smart game play, match 3 play broken up with a few
hidden object scenes and a familiar story line that could arguably
be best described as being stolen from Harry Potter. Rates about
31/2 from 5.
