Alabama Smith Escape from Pompeii is a fairly good puzzle game, yet it does have a few annoyances that keep it from making the "Great Game" list. Firstly, let's talk about the game itself and the good aspects, before you get the idea that it would be a bad choice.

This is a real puzzle thriller with hidden object action, point and click adventure and a good recharging hints system. You are spoon fed instructions for a good part of the journey but eventually come up against some tougher puzzles, which experienced gamers should be able to complete with a minimum amount of fuss.

Alabama Smith Escape from Pompeii graphics are quite good, almost realistic and the game offers two modes, casual and expert. Casual mode is more like a hidden object game with the introduction of a "Find Items" list . Casual mode is certainly more relaxed with extra hints and the ability to skip mini games. If you want, you can switch between the 2 different modes between scenes, which is a good thing if you need more hints.

Perhaps the major flaw in an otherwise good game, is that Alabama Smith Escape from Pompeii is a little on the short side, with an experienced gamer being able to complete the entire offering in around 3 hours. Puzzles are great, some are even excellent, objects hard to find without being impossible and story, not shaky, but solid enough to satisfy.
